Against Beijing & Washington
For international workers’ solidarity!
London’s protest supporting this call to action – please add your name, and if you can organise an activity in another city, get in touch!
1 October is the founding anniversary of the People’s Republic of China. And it’s one year since Hong Kong police began using live ammunition on democracy protesters. This protest is in solidarity with all those struggling under the repressive Chinese state and ruling class – and the corporate giants like Apple which are complicit in the oppression and exploitation.
China’s occupations of Tibet & the Uyghur region are marked by racist persecution, aiming at forced assimilation. As well as mass internment and forced contraception, Uyghur workers are conscripted to forced labour – including in factories making Apple products.
In Hong Kong, democracy protesters fight for universal suffrage and political freedom against a violent crackdown. Apple shut down an app that these freedom fighters used to organise protests and monitor the police.
The so-called “Communist” party-state presides over wealth inequality approaching that of the USA and growing. Chinese workers, banned from freely unionising, are hyper-exploited for profit: in the case of Foxconn factories making Apple products, some have been driven to suicide.
But we oppose the Cold War posturing of nationalist and imperialist politicians both West and East. Escalating rivalry between the superpowers endangers and impoverishes workers and oppressed people on both “sides”. We want grassroots solidarity across borders: for workers’ struggles, economic and political democracy, universal human rights, freedom from all oppression, and self-determination for all peoples.
