Monthly protest CANCELLED: act online instead

We have made the difficult decision to cancel the protest planned for 5 November. Instead of protesting, we’re asking all supporters to email and tweet your MPs about an inquiry by the parliamentary Business Committee into forced Uyghur labour in supply chains.

Though we are confident that the safety measures we take on our protests do minimise the health risks, it isn’t yet clear how protests will be treated under the new COVID-19 lockdown rules and we don’t want to put supporters at risk of legal or police consequences. We hope to protest safely again as soon as we can.

The Uyghur Solidarity Campaign UK brings together solidarity in the UK workers’ movement in support of the Uyghur people’s struggle for freedom.

Join our monthly protest at the Chinese embassy in London to demand an end to the brutal, genocidal persecution of the Uyghur people and the other Turkic peoples of East Turkestan – the region occupied and ruled by China as “Xinjiang”.

We are demanding an end to the mass internment that has imprisoned around one million people in concentration camps for “re-education” and violent abuse; an end to the suffocating surveillance and repression against political dissent, Uyghur culture and language, and Muslims’ religious freedoms; an end to the separation of children from families; an end to forced contraception and sterilisation; and an end to the forced labour programmes that have seen tens or hundreds of thousands coerced to work in factories supplying corporate giants like Nike and Apple.

Against the Chinese state’s racist plan to forcibly assimilate the Uyghurs and other Turkic peoples into Han culture, we demand human rights and justice, and we support the democratic right of the people of East Turkestan to determine their own future.

We want to build international solidarity between workers and oppressed people in the UK, in East Turkestan and China’s other occupied territories, in China itself, and around the world. We oppose attempts to use the Chinese state’s atrocities to whip up xenophobia and anti-Chinese racism, or to fuel a superpower rivalry and a dangerous arms race.

Please bring placards and banners, including banners representing your trade unions and campaign organisations!
